Before you start
You need a free systeme.io account. systeme.io says the free plan "never expires and does not require a credit card", so there is nothing to cancel if you decide it isn't for you.
Decide what your first page is for. For most freelancers it is one of two things: a simple website that explains what you do, or a single page that collects email addresses or sells one offer. systeme.io calls the second kind a sales funnel.
Option 1: your first funnel
systeme.io describes a sales funnel as "a sequence of pages that guides a visitor from their first contact with your business to a purchase", typically an opt-in page, a sales page, a checkout page and a thank-you page. The free plan includes up to 3 funnels.
- Go to Funnels in your dashboard and click "Create a funnel".
- Choose a funnel type (lead capture, product sales, webinar and so on) and pick a template.
- Click each step to edit the page in the drag-and-drop editor: change the text, images and offer details.
- If you are selling, connect your payment processor on the checkout step.
- Set up an email automation to follow up with new leads or buyers.
- Click Publish.
systeme.io says most first funnels can be live in under 2 hours.
Option 2: your first website
The website builder is included on the free plan. systeme.io describes the process as: choose a template, customise text and images, add pages, set up navigation, configure your domain, and publish, with no coding needed.
- Start from a ready-made template, then change colours, fonts and images across the whole site.
- Add pages such as Home, Services and Contact, and arrange your navigation menu.
- Set the title and description each page shows on Google in its settings.
- Publish on your own domain: the free plan includes 1 custom domain.
Connect it to your email list
Whichever option you choose, add a form. systeme.io says that when a visitor fills in a form on your website or funnel, they are added to your contacts automatically, ready for email follow-up. That is the start of an email list you own.
What to do next
Once your page is live, the next useful steps are a welcome email for new subscribers and, if you sell services, a booking page. The guides below cover both.
Common questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. systeme.io says its editor is entirely visual: you click any element to edit it and drag blocks to reorder them. Custom CSS is possible for advanced users but never required.
Can I use my own domain on the free plan?
Yes. systeme.io's pricing page lists 1 custom domain on the free plan.
Can I take payments on the free plan?
Yes. systeme.io says you connect a payment processor such as Stripe or PayPal on the checkout step, and it charges 0% transaction fees on every plan. Your payment processor's own fees still apply.
